Hope you enjoy your time here! 😊

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Here's how we could be gone for a week, as long as I'm not hatching chicks or have young chicks.

We have 5-gallon nipple waterers in the coops that we put 1/2 teaspoon of RV water freshener in and it's good for nearly a month.

We have a stainless steel circular feeder in the coop that hangs from the ceiling and holds about two weeks worth of feed and in the other coops we have 5 gallon buckets with PVC ports in them. Those last a few weeks but we don't fill them so the food doesn't get old.

We do not have automatic doors (yet) on our chicken doors (5), so our farmer neighbor opens them in the morning to let them out, then returns at night to shut the doors. Once we get automatic doors, we won't need her. But we'd still ask her to come get eggs.

Thank you Debbie, we will into that for sure. By the way those automatic doors are wonderful just have to remember the time/season change so no one gets locked out. Again thanks for the information. The one thing I realize everyday is just much I don't know! But it is a hoot and I have never laughed so much.

Hi and welcome to BYC. Chickens are a blast when all is working well. Many of us don't take vacations because of having chickens. Dogs are easier in that regard as they can be kenneled somewhere.
People have had varying degrees of success with others caring for their chickens while away - so do your research and have them visit ahead of your departure. Have fun with your flock.
