Hello,
I'm from Vermont and 5 keets just arrived! We are excited to raise them with 3 chickens [peeps arrive next weekend] and watch them take care of our tick problem! I have a two year old and we have had too many hitchhikers for my comfort.
I know we have a white and maybe a royal purple and a couple lavender - we went with assorted so it's anybody's guess in our house at this point.
Yes, we are keeping them in our house. At least for a few weeks. We are handling them each day in hopes they will bond with us. Right now they are in pine shavings topped with white paper towels which they seem to peck like crazy! Entertaining for the toddler.
We have a dog cage in the garage for the next step closer to outdoors. We plan to build an 8x4 coop in the next week or so for our 8 birds. 8ft tall in front and 6 feet tall in back with a window in back and double doors in front. We plan to run a wire divider down the coop to keep the birds together but separate so we can feed them each what they need to be healthy. [Turkey vs. Chicken feed]
This is our first pet and first at "farming" so I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions and a lot to share.
Look forward to connecting with you!
