Hello!
Super excited. I tried hatching silkies a month ago in a small 7 egger , cheap incubator. It failed. I then found out the incubator temp was was actually 50 degrees Celsius not 38 like the machine says.

sooo after a lot of research , purchasing some thermometers and hygrometers I have the cheap bator stable and my home made one stable.

DAY 2 !
For my little Rhode Island reds.

I have been successful at keeping both Incubators stable around 38 degrees give or take. The mini I can’t get humidity past 45% and the home made one I got to 50%

You can increase humidity a lot by adding a clean kitchen sponge. It increases surface space due to the holes in the sponge.

I would add one or two at lockdown to get humidity up to 65% or so

great! Thank you. I will do that!
I have 5 moving babies in the home
Made incubator and 1 moving baby in the cheap mini incubator.

Day 20! On lock down. Added sponges as suggested and humidity went up to 60+
Keep temp stable around 38degrees.
Candled on day 18 and had 7 moving babies!

i tried my first round with a homemade incubator and wasnt as successful :( and now i am using the other incubator that you used round 1. My chicks all began developing but looks like i am losing some as the days go on. hopeful for even one chick to hatch at this point! can i ask what rotating, if any, you did in your first incubator

I had them tipped to the side and flipped sides. They would start developing and die.
My homemade worked better.
Tomorrow is day 21!! Hoping they hatch
