i am a 1st timer trying to hatch chicks. i have had chickens for a couple years also a couple turkeys and guineas. my friend borrowed me his incubator so i figured i would try. i have done alot of research but still dont compare to doing it in real life.
i have 10 eggs in the incubator for 9 days now. all the pics i have looked at and i still am not sure if they are all good. i see a dark spot with veins on almost all of them. i have 10 in there. now they are brown eggs so harder to see. i put the light on them and i turn them slow and can find the veins . on maybe 6 of them i swear if i hold them still the spot moves.i am trying to make sure to get rid of bad ones but kinda lost now.when i turn them in the light everything inside slides . is this bad? should i not turn them all around. i do it slowly but just trying to see everything.
any help would be great thanks
jeff

That sounds about right. Black, moving blobs and spider veins are good things. And everything moving around inside the egg is normal. The yolk is held in place by the chalazae (little stingy looking thing attached to the yolk). As long as you're turning gently they'll be fine. The only thing you don't want to see rolling around is the air cell. It should stay on the fat end of the egg no matter how you turn it.
Good luck, sounds like you're on track to me :)

thanks so much. funny i have been doing saltwater fish and corals for over 25 years and i am on a forum always helping new people to it. i come here and dont have a clue . now i remember how they feel. i love keeping the chickens .i built 4 coops all 160 sq ft each so i have alot of time into it. i am just paranoid at this being my 1st time. so thanks again

No prob, we were all new once ;)

The first time I incubated eggs, I swear I checked them every 10 minutes for the entire 21 days :gig It gets easier once you see the cute little peeps!

one thing you learn doing saltwater fish tanks is patience.so it isnt bothering me too much waiting. but i always like to learn new things.once the little ones are born then off to the next stage of caring for them. then???????????? maybe do more.i have friends who want them but dont want to incubate.
