New to having chickens

Hello and welcome from another newbie.

Pay attention when the other "more seasoned and wise" folks here on BYC tell you to plan for more. They know of which they speak!

I've only had 5 chickens for a month now and am already planning on adding 6-12 more! They are the most fun little backyard friends. Chicken T.V.!

If you're looking for pets, get at least one Buff Orpington. My Buffy is the sweetest thing - she loves to jump up in our laps and get petted.

I'm new to this chicken thing still in the process of building my first coop. I have a question though, when you say each chicken needs 4sq ft is that just the area of inside the hen house or what?

Hi

I found Sussex to be very friendly chickens to have and as Hillbilly hen said Black Australorps are great too! We also had some leghorns and from personal experience althought they did had beautiful white eggs, they were way to flighty.
