New to here and new to chickens

I have one more question. When it comes to the temperature in the brooder, do you measure the temp directly under the heat lamp? Or somewhere else in the brooder? I'm trying to get my heat lamp situated and testing the heat and i'm having trouble figuring out the lamp placement and where to be measuring the heat

Is this too high?

Think of your heat lamp as a replacement for the hen, that area right underneath is where it should be around 95 degrees for the first week. The rest of the brooder should be cooler, they will return to the lamp to warm up as needed, just as they would if they were running around with a hen.
