I am new at incubating guinea eggs. I have 3 guinea eggs that started hatching yesterday. They have made no progress in 24+ hours. I know one for sure is moving. Some of the shell is broken off and there is a small slit in the membrane. Another has 2 very small pieces of the egg that broke off and the third has a long crack in it. I hear piping but don’t know which one is coming from. I understand not to help them. The first time I did this after 24 hours the guinea keets died in the egg. Is it normal that it takes over 24 hours to hatch?

I'm afraid I'm not experienced with hatching Guinea fowl eggs, but I know that chicken chicks and ducklings can take up to 18 hours and more than 24 hours respectively to progress after pipping, so you can use that as a rough guide.

Personally, I'd keep an eye and ear on them and if they show signs of distress, fatigue or trouble, I'd assist them. Here is a good guide on how to: Guide to Assisted Hatching for All Poultry

Best of luck!

Two have hatched. One hatched around 4:30 this morning, the second just hatched and the third is zipping.

Thank you so much for that guide! I will be using it in the future if I need to assist with hatching.

Oh that's wonderful! Have you got a pic of the little ones to share?

You are very welcome :)

Here they are. The newest one still has the ambelical cord attached to it.
