Hi I'm Karen and I'm brand new to chickens. I just got the okay from my husband that we could have some backyard chicks. I'm in the learning stage right now. I'm pretty sure I want Bantams, and only 5 or 6. I play to order from MyPetChicken.com, assuming i cant find what I want locally. I don't have any local chicken experienced friends, so I'm turning to the all knowing internet (lol). I'm most concerned about them getting sick or needing vet care. is this unreasonable?

I actually didn't have a coop design in mind.

In a sad bit of news I emailed the zoning director of my city to confirm that chickens were okay (the byc site said they were okay and required a permit) and I found out that in my section of the city chickens arent allowed

The zoning director said i can talk to my local council person about them which could lead to the ordinance being changed... so that is my new goal! I still want to learn about chickens so I'll be ready for them when i win over the city (i don't think its going to be too hard, I live about 5 blocks from lots of horse barns, so I've got some hope).
