After a month of constructing and predator proofing our coop, we finally picked up some pullets this week. We have 100 sq ft of floor space in our coop and will be adding about 500 sq ft of covered run for them in the next week. We started with 16 girls, Production Reds, Plymouth Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, Summerwells, Wheaton Ameraucanas and Lavender Ameracuanas but added a red Frizzle for our daughter yesterday. I think we'll be getting another Frizzle because all the girls seem to group by breed or size and we're feeling a little sad for our curly girl.

This is our first time keeping chickens. Luckily we have some pretty experienced friends that have helped with coop design and selection. My husband is semi-retired and I work from home, so we get to go out and enjoy the girls several times a day. A wee bit nervous, but loving it so far!

An important note about frizzles. Never breed a frizzle to another frizzle, it will produce birds that are either bald or have feathers that will break off. You can breed a frizzle to a regular feathered chick,
