My thread about our good dog throwing off her mortal chains: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/shes-been-a-good-dog.1442569/#post-23933635
We fostered a dog for a local shelter which was overcrowded and doing everything they could to avoid euthanizing their charges. Actual, my wife decided we were going to foster a dog, and she went down and got talked into taking a hard-headed, stubborn, brilliant Siberian Husky/GSD mix that needs a lot of training and socialization; she's been through 4 households in a little over a year because the stubborn/smart thing can mean you break down and let the dog win. If the dog wins once, you lose forever.
Long story short, we're not fostering her anymore. Four homes in 14 months is too much to ask of a dog (we're the fifth), so we made it permanent.
She is an excellent dog and we work her 3 or 4 times a day. She is VERY smart and VERY strong willed but has responded well to training. The Siberian in her makes her a runner but we have almost 20 fenced acres and working her hard means she's learning her boundaries.
We're working on the "chickens are friends, not food!" concept.
