(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, I am new to owning chickens myself. I was always around chickens as a child. Just got my first clutch of chicks from Cackle Hatchery on May 4th.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 18 chicks that just turned 6 weeks old.

(3) What breeds do you have? I have Easter Eggers

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Fresh eggs, knowing what has been fed to my chickens, and having little bug catchers. I also love feeding the chickens!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I have raised other birds (now down to just two Conures). I enjoy reading and cooking.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am always busy. My husband and I both work from home (health insurance-same company). I have a 28 year old daughter that has my twin 4 year granddaughters. My husband and I are still raising my 14 year old daughter (who is homeschooled) and our 18 month old granddaughter (It’s complicated lol).

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I was looking for information on whether DE is safe for chicken coops/runs (still on the fence due to the whole respiratory issues and it has to stay dry). I live in AZ, and it gets HOT here. I am always on the lookout for great ideas for keeping the girls cool. Many of those ways requires water , so DE may not really be a great option for the coop/run anyway. This site seems to have a lot of good information available. Great way to pull resources! :) hi! 👋

Actually tried DE many years ago when "Plants Alive" had it available. Never found it to be useful for anything.
Misting hoses are good at cooling the air and putting some humidity into it. You may want to ask what others in Ariz. do to comfort their birds.
