New to owning Silkies have some questions....

I don't really think any color is rare, Silkies are a very popular breed, but if I had to pick a color that I had the hardest time finding it would be black. I breed blue, black and splash Silkies (currently, I've had lots of colors and hopefully at some point will again) and had a very difficult time finding my black rooster. Most folks selling blacks are usually (and unknowingly) selling really dark blues and the only way to find out the difference is to breed them (its pretty disappointing to find blue chicks where they're supposed to be black).

I don't envy your weather one bit, sorry! We've been in the 70s and 80s the last few days and I'm not looking forward to the cool front coming in....which will put us in the 60s

And they'll be fine on the medicated feed. Personally, I would take it back to the store and exchange it, but I don't use medicated at all. But, if you don't feel the need to return it, go ahead and feed it and then switch them when the bag is gone

Well I tried to add my single buttercup into the brooder with the 3 silkies and that did not work out well. The silkies pecked her head and tried to stand over the top of her even though she was trying to snuggle. I think the chickens I wanted so badly are going to try my patience lol. I am curious about feather growth, my other chicks feathered out quickly and are in an outside run, how do I know when the silkies have enough feathers to go outside? When they open their wings I can still see skin, I have shut off the light in the brooder to make them feather out faster. The weather here is in the mid 50's now, Whoo hoo Spring is finally here. Thanks again.
