I've four eggs in the incubator now ... We are on day 4 ... I read somewhere that peafowl shouldn't be on dirt for the first year something about getting sick if they are ... Is there truth to this ....

In my opinion don't worry too much about it. My peahen has raised chicks on the ground before. The reason why is because they can sometimes get Histomoniasis aka Blackhead. Peachicks can die very quickly. I think it was 4 months someone told me but I wouldn't worry too much about. Peafowl have raised their young on the ground for many years and more years to come. Make sure they have everything they need and they remain healthy for the most part.

Like Birdrain said keep an eye on them. What works for me is to keep them off the ground for a minimum 8 weeks. From my observations, when a hen is raising them free range they have less oppurtunity to peck at feces on the ground of a pen. Free range birds have a natural defense by what they have available to eat. For your brood I suggest you keep fresh water and good crumbles and try not to mix fowl, chickens are ok, but water fowl younguns are a no no with small peachicks. You are going to do fine with your birds because you care about their well being now, most people are not concerned until they die. I hope this helps, please keep us posted,
