New to pheasants why would a cock kill a hen?

the more places you have for a hen to hide the better the health of your avery is going to be the more agressive roos are better breeders

I'm guessing you're a pheasant breeder? In the wild, the hens don't live with the males, do they? If they only meet up to breed at certain times, maybe that's something that needs to be mimicked in domesticity for their sakes. Would be difficult though, I do see most people keep the males and females together year round.

I mostly keep a few to eat Pal / mate :) not really a breeder pheasant keepers are a strange Lot :) I am kina fond of the melanistic RN :)

lol, reminds me of a woman I know who loves horses, but doesn't associate with horse owners because 'they're all nuts'... Extremists in every group I guess. ;)

I'd like to keep some pheasants for eating, I have heard they make the best sausages.
