So, I have no idea if this is the right place to even be asking this, but I am not sure where else to go. My son is taking market turkeys and market chickens to our county fair through 4-h. Our club does not specialize in poultry so we are pretty much on our own. Our question is, now that they are getting bigger, can they be housed together. It would make life so much easier! :)

Every farm I have been to they have let all of their birds run free together I wouldn't see the problem as long as the chicken is big enought to defend it's self! Maybe put them together and watch and see how they interact!

Certain geographical areas are prone to Blackhead; it is a disease that chickens carry with no ill efefcst but is dangerous to turkeys. Here is a great thread with some info on it https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/804570/coping-with-blackhead

There are people on both sides of the fence. Many people mix turkeys and chickens, others do not. From my own limited understanding it is either in your area and therefore a concern or it is not. My turkeys and chickens are not in the same pens but do free range together more recently and I have had no issues. It is best to research and make an educated decision for yourself. You may also be able to find out if it is a problem where you live by doing some research.

You might think this is funny, I got an email from a pathologist at UC Davis asking me about blackhead at my place! Most people around me don't bother having necropsies done, so the State has no clue as to what cities and counties have blackhead.
