New to quail

Keep them in some type of cage. If they get out they will be gone. It is good fun to let them out and watch your kids try and chase them down and catch them.

I've used bantams to hatch out quail but after the hen get done raising them I move them into the quail pens. But if you do that put the hen in a cage to raise the quail the other hens will attack them.
Lol I can just imagine my daughter casing them down lol. That's excellent to know that'd be pretty neat to watch a banny raise a quail lol.

While at the auction one of the eggs randomly hatched is that normal? I figured they would need more heat, of course it's been around 90 here lately.

that is weird they have to have 100 temp for 17 to 18 day to hatch. i wish they could just sit out on the counter and hatch lol

they do a great job at it. Ive used some old english game and some cochins to raise them. anytime one goes broody i have a cage i move them to and give them about 8 or 10 eggs. I have found that they do a lot better when raised by a hen.

Good to know! Are they profitable to sell in general?

Good deal that's enough for me. What about food can they eat meats like fish?
Mine tend to like their normal food more than they do any kind of scraps. But they do love mealworms. I stopped trying with things other than mealworms and just started giving all the scraps to the chickens. but you can try them see how your do. There is no reason other than them not eating it to not give it to them.

Get some chick grit to add to their food or just keep some sand in a bowl to dust bathe in. They love to dust bathe. I add a mixture of sand and de once or twice a week for them to dust bath in. here are some of my quail dust bathing.

Lol they're quite the critter, thanks for all the info! Anything I haven't thought to ask I need to know? Also mine are supposed to be 5 weeks and are already laying eggs think they just got mixed up with the age?

Yep someone got the ages wrong. Ive had one start laying at 7 1/2 weeks old but that the earliest ive ever had one start laying. most of the time its 9 weeks. nothing else I can thank of at this time. They are fun little birds and a blast to watch. I hope you enjoy them.
