Hi all,
I am in the process of building a coop now the very beginning process. We will have a total of 12 chickens 5 hens 1 rooster and 6 broilers. My question is what size coop should I build. Almost everything is going to be upcycled the floor is made out of pallets and right now I am able to get ATV packing crates that are, I want to say 5'6'' to 6' high and 10' long. would 10 X 10 be to big? I am in the U.P. of Michigan and I don't want to go to big and have to worry about them getting cold in the winter but I don't want to go to small and have them cramped. My original plan was 6x6 but figured this would be to small. Any help would be great open to all.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Build it big, there is no such thing as too big as far as a coop is concerned. But there is definitely such a thing as too small. Don't fall into the trap that you want the coop small, tight, and cozy for the colder months. They need room, plenty of ventilation/fresh air. Especially in the winter months, where severe weather may keep them inside. Look through the link below, and see how cold weather coops were done.
