New to raising chickens in Modesto!

Hello all I live in modesto. I am interested in raising chickens but am not sure if i can. From what i'm reading i can raise up to 12 hens with no permit and their coop must be at least 40 ft from any house. Is this correct? Please Advise if you know.

Are you reading it on your area/town ordinances? Because each town has different rules. Where I live we are not allowed any "livestock" at all even though I living in a farming town! But what I had to do was get a variance plus testers from my two neighbors saying they were ok with t. But no rosters. So everywhere s different.

I had similar questions. My advice is call someone with zoning.
