New to raising chickens

My name is Kari and I live 60 miles south of Palm Springs, California (in the hot desert). I will be getting my first fertilized eggs of Bantam Silkies and Ameracaunas this week

I have the incubator ready to go. We are in the process of building a coop. I am excited about the entire process as is my 7 year old son. I grew up in Kansas and hope to have a home on acreage there in the next couple of years.
I am grateful to have found this site and look forward to getting to know you all and more about raising chickens.
