New to Raising Chickens

Thanks for your responses and greetings. The reason I was thinking of the garage is that it is pretty much unused and we have a lot of predators around - raccoons, opossums, foxes and coyotes. I'm so glad you experienced chicken lovers are out there and available. I have been thinking about getting some chickens, but know absolutely nothing about them, so I am starting from 'scratch' as it were.

Welcome to BYC! There is a lot of information on this site and the best place to start is the Learning Center on this site and read as much as you can. There are articles on bio-security, deciding to free range, and fortifying your coop. Some people have utilized part of a garage and cut a hole to an outside run that has been properly fortified. A rooster will protect the flock if you want to try to free range. It is a personal decision that you will have to make. You will find that having chickens is a real adventure and you will enjoy it more than you thought you would.

Welcome to BYC! You've come to the right place to learn about chickens. You have lots of room for your chickens, that's for sure. I agree that keeping them in the garage is a personal choice. I am sure you'll choose the best way for you and the safety of your flock.
