Hello,

I a new duck owner. I have a pair of ducks that I got about 2 weeks ago, they were little, growing good and moving around good. Until about 3 days ago my larger one started hobbling and now he can barely walk. I was looking at his legs / feet there was nothing the appears broken, but noticed he has a black spot on the bottom of each of his feet. Is it what they call bumble foot? I can not see anything that looks like it was broken.

How can I tell for sure?

Thanks for any and all help!

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry about your wobbling duck. If there are small black dots, and sometimes large, on the bottom of the pads, then yes, this is bumble foot. He has stepped on something to poke a hole in the pad and has an infection. You will need to do bumblefoot surgery on his foot/feet.

You might post this in our emergency section for more help with the surgery. You will do best if you take pics of the pads so they can see what you are talking about...

I sure hope you can get this baby healed up soon.

That is bumble foot, yes. I'll ask some duck owner friends to pop in and advice, but I'd also recommend posting in the ducks section or the emergency section:

Can you put up a picture of the feet? It helps to see what is going on. If it is bumble foot, a simple way to treat is with colorless iodine. I get mine at Wal Mart.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You've gotten some good advice/links above, hope your duck recovers.

My duck generally sits with his foot kind of out. The guy on the top.

This is one of his feet... sorry I can not remember which one.

Same foot

His other foot

he does ok in the pool

But he does not seem to use his right one, it kind of drags behind.

Thanks for every ones help!
