Hi Michael thank you for welcoming us. I want to start off with a good laying chicken that can take the desert heat maybe some Rhode island red and see how it goes. I do like the polish hens they a so pretty. My hubby loves duck eggs so we will get 3 golden hybrid ducklings.

I would definitely get the Marek's Vaccine. It's a small investment to insure not losing your flock to Mareks. $2.00 per chick is awful expensive for the vaccine however. Who's going to vaccinate them for you? Most hatcheries provide the Marek's Vaccine for 15-20 cents per chick. Your other option is you can always purchase the vaccine from your local feed store and do it your self. It's not difficult.
