Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. You have the best layers in the chicken world. I have all three breeds (technically sex links are hybrids and not true breeds) at one time or another over the years, and they are all egg laying machines. I still Black Sex Links, and not only are they hardy and friendly, but they are my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. How do I get them to return to the hen house on their own so I can close the door?

You need to lock them up in the hen house for a week so that they become acclimated to it and it is imprinted on them as "home."
