Husband just confirmed he's found someone to build us a coop!

I've gone through 70 pages of the brooder thread so lots of ideas. What a great site this is!

Curious re attrition rate - seems like not all chicks survive? Was going to get three chicks - would it be better to start with more? Definitely want an Americauna for the blue eggs. The other options at our local feed store are Salmon Faverolles, Buff Orpingtons, Dark Brahmas and Barred Cochins. Open to recommendations re all of the above.

My heart yearns for a Silkie but it's not on their list and doesn't seem possible to get just one chick from a mail order place. I know they aren't great layers, but they are soooooo adorable.
