I follow BYC on Fb but new to this blog. We have had chickens for years, different laying breeds and sell a small amount of eggs to neighbors/friends. I just received my first small flock of novagen hens (and a few roosters) via USPS. Out of 27 (5 of which should be roosters), 4 died within a day but the rest are doing great! I researched that they are amazing layers, I am tired of having chickens that don't produce well although I love the colors of the eggs. In the past we stuck with Rhode Island Reds but the last two years we have hatched our own from a friends flock - "mutt" chickens that produce blue, green, olive and different shades of brown. Our Rhode Island Reds should start laying any time now so between them and the novagens we should start getting more eggs. We have several coops but my husband is hoping to build a better building with partitions to house the girls. Anyway have a blessed day!
