Hi

The wife and I have been on this site in the past for tips and advice getting our little homestead up and going.
We recently took on raising Eastern Wild Turkeys. We originally purchased day old birds and raised them to adulthood. We have a buch of eggs in the incubator that are starting to hatch. So, i am here for help and advise.

Our first one hatched today and with nothing to really compare it too, i wonder if it is behaiving normally.
It has been out of the shell or about 4 hours and still is kind of just laying there. It kicks it feet a little and manages to roll over sometimes.

If there is anyone here that would volunteer their time to give some advice and information it would be greatly appreceiated.

Thanks
DD

Sometimes it takes a bit of time for them to get their feet under them. I just hatched a bunch of chicks and a few of them took about 10+ hours to really get moving. I found the longer it took them to hatch, the longer it took them to move around.

I agree hatching is exhausting for chicks and I would imagine the same for any species. They need to sleep it off. You may want to check out the "Other Backyard Poultry" thread which includes ducks, geese, turkeys etc. I 'm sure they could give you better answers.
