I'm very new the the world of chickens but today my family and I have decided to start our own small backyard flock with our we'll umber purchase. We are on the Eastside of Indy. We have a wonderful small garden in our little backyard. We will need to decide and build or purchase a suiting coop for our space. I am reading as much as I can but am always open for advice. I am also not shy about asking questions when they arise. I have already searched several questions that were easily answered.

Congratulations! You are right chickens are an adventure! They are fun, entertaining, and will always make you smile! Good luck!

Welocme to BYC!!! It is an aweosme forum (the BEST in the world) and has a great comminity!!! Hope you have a great time and learn A LOT!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join to our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. My advice is to be sure and build your coop as large as you can afford to, or have space to build it. The minimum recommend floor area for a coop is 4 sq. ft. per bird, and for the run 10 sq. ft. per bird. More is better in both cases as overcrowding can quickly lead to aggression, fights, biting and feather plucking, and even cannibalism. Also, most chicken owners using end up getting more chickens at some point than they had originally planned. It's called "chicken math." :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your coop built.
