I had a flock of barred rocks back in Michigan (years ago) and having recently moved to East Texas, picked up some Welbar and one Easter egger last summer. They started laying around December, and I've got four more (two more EE and two 'Ideal', whatever that is) peeping around in a dog crate in the kitchen. The neighbors have a kid on the high school football team who is about 8'8", 900lb, so they've been getting most of the eggs. These are strictly laying hens, but at some future point (a few years on) I will probably ask around and see if there's someone who can walk me through the chicken disassembly procedure.
