Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Cynthia, I'm mom to 4 wonderful kids. The 3 boys are grown and doing their own thing now, still have a 9 year old at home with us. Also mom to 3 dogs (Nana to 1 dog) 8 of the most amazing Chickens

and Nana to one grandbaby, he is such a joy. Both hubby and I were raised on farms but it took us a long time to get back to the farm. We purchased our place across the road from my parents, that is amazing in itself. We are slowly and steadily getting things set up here. I wasn't supposed to get chickens until next year but my hubby is awesome. I was in a pretty bad car accident this past Sept and with back surgeries etc I'm pretty limited. So we were at the feed store one day and woo hooo there were the baby chicks. Yea, hubby came home to find baby chicks in our garage. Not one word he went straight away to fixing them a home. Now he has decided its not good enough and is working on what we are fondly referring to as moving our chickens from the slums to Hollywood. LOL. We had chickens when I was young, needless to say I hated them as they were a required chore, but I so adore the ones we have now. I'm finding I have many questions which is what brought me to this board. I look forward to reading posts and learning something everyday. Thanks for a great place to meet other chicken lovers

I, too, have realized that my chickens deserve a more attractive home, but I am putting off doing anything until next year. Then I plan on building a really nice coop with a tiki theme.
 
Welcome from California. My husband was reluctant. We both have memories of our childhoods with chickens that were not as pleasant as they might have been. But raising a handful of chicks is so wonderfully rewarding. Now we're both dedicated to caring for these wonderful pets. Good luck to you.

. It's funny how so many of us that raised chickens as kids have returned to it as adults. I guess that tells you something.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I also find it funny that many had chickens when young and have them again now. I think the big thing for me when I was young was we had about 50 or 60 of them, thats not fun, thats a lot of hard work and I don't think most young folks appreciate the value of raising your own food. (by the way I'm still a young 44 lol) That is something that we are working on real hard with our kids. Though the boys are grown we still work at teaching them. They came out the other night and had salsa and chips with us and just raved about the salsa, wanted to know if I had more. I told them to go to the produce auction and buy tomatoes and bring them and I'd be happy to show them how to make and can their own LOL. I failed to mention that four of my girls are Sexlinks, 2 are mini bantams, and the other two are unknown though it appears one is a rooster. Watching him brings home the reason why they came up with the word cocky in relation to ones behavior. LOL.
