Hi my name is Denise,

I am new to Chicken owning...My friend called me last night and she has 5 chicks to start me out...She has 3 hens 2 are Delawares and one is a Welsummer....One Delaware Rooster and one Welsummer Rooster.....

I have 2 questions?

How many eggs can I expect from the hens I will have now.....

We have a chance to purchase 5 other hens and a Rooster...
1 welsummer hen
1 cuckoo maran hen
1 americana hen
1 red sexlink hen
1 blue laced red wyndott rooster

what do you think about this mis and will 3 roosters be too much...

I wish I could help, but I'm not a chicken owner (Sorry!).

from Texas.
I would say guessing 2 eggs a day. the sexlink should lay almost everyday.
If you have allot of space for them to spread out 3 roos for 10 hens "should" be OK.
I have about 40 roos.

Hello from Oregon and welcome to BYC! If you currently have three hens, two Delawares and one Welsummer, I think you can count on one egg per day.

If you add four more hens: Welsummer, Maran, Sex-Link, and Ameraucana (or EE), for a total of seven hens, you might get three to five eggs a day. The Sex-Link will be the best produce, laying almost every day.

Personally, I think three roosters is two too many for seven hens. : )

I go with the 1 roo for 10 hens ratio... Works well for me... I have about a 1% infertility rate... Not bad..

Anyway, welcome to BYC!! I hope you get all the chickens... The more the merrier...
