Started my flock of chickens back in May this year.
Me and my husband happened to be in the Tractor Supply Store and they had baby chicks. He showed me how cute they were and when I asked him about getting some to start with the grand kids he said absolutely not! He grew up raising chickens among other things and was in no way going there. About a month later, he built a chicken coup and a couple of days later we started with one Easter Egger and two Rhode Island Red chicks. And so it began! Two weeks later we had two Silver laced Wyndotte and two golden lace Wyndotte. Came how a few weeks later with two more Wyndotte. We are not up to nine chickens and added two more coups. We call them our chicken condo's. It has been interesting and fun with the grandkids and watching them grow. Gor my first egg from the EE last Wednesday and have only skipped two days of laying since. Yesterday one RR layed her first egg. YAY! So exciting and the kids love looking for them in the nesting boxes.
We started a vegetable garden a few years ago and love introducing the grand kids on these experiences. We live in a suburb outside of New Orleans and love making these memories with them.
