Ok so my husband and I moved to a place that is big and is rural. We have a large empty shed with layered large shelves all the way around it. My hubby used to live in Arkansas and had chickens. Me, I raised horses and we always had our neibors chicken in our yard but that was the extent of my chicken interaction. So any advice on the set up? What do I need and where do I start?

Welcome to BYC. First of all, build it bigger than you think you will ever need. Click on the "Raising backyard chickens " forum then click on 'Coop and run design, construction, maintenance' for ideas.

Look above for the Learning Center as well

Welcome to BYC. I agree with everyone to look at the Learning Center, and read some of the emergency forum daily to learna bout illnesses and injuries. The coop section is good to look at the insides and outsides of each coop, and see how they have placed roosts, nest boxes, where to put water, food, and most importantly of all in this time of year, coop ventilation. It is also very important in summer, but preventing frostbite right now is the number one problem. Take your time getting chickens, do not get them from swap meets or unknown people who will sell you sick chickens. Learn how to recognize a sick chicken before you accidentally buy some. Good luck, you will enjoy them.
