since your roo is so protective of his hen he may be very aggressive to new birds being added. There are threads on here that deal with integration issues that would be of use to you .

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Yes, I am worried about my Roo being aggressive towards new birds so I will definitely check out those threads! I was hoping they would be ok until spring and then I could get the hen to hatch some eggs (if she goes broody). Also, I am not sure that I want to mix my chicken breeds. I really like the Brahma's so far and I was considering breeding just them. However, I do have a draw to Dom's. I'm not sure what to do.

I do have a question/issue. My chickens just turned 21 weeks so we are getting close to our first egg. However, I have noticed that she hasn't even messed with the nesting box yet. I can tell because the bedding hasn't moved! I also haven't been able to get them to roost on the roost itself, they lay together under then nesting box. How can I get them to roost on the roost and use the nesting box?

Thanks again for the welcome!

Michelle

Hi Maria,

I live in Barnesville, about an hour south of Scranton! :) Right off of 81.

Do you attend any poultry shows in the Scranton area? I've never been before, but would love to next summer. I am highly fascinated with the different breeds of chickens. Before starting my research on getting my own, I had no idea there were so many different breeds available. What kind of chickens do you have?

Michelle
Sussex Co, NJ show in April would be a good one to attend - welcome to BYC.
