New to the Chicken World

Hello fellow feather keepers, I am new to the Chicken World. We got 4 chicks about 2 weeks ago. They are about 4/5 weeks old. I am trying to figure out and learn as much as I can. This seems like a really great website. I posted a couple of questions and pics of my new feathered friends under new chicks (I think). I was wondering if older posts get checked out or if I don't see any replys right away will it get lost in old posts? (Does that make sense?) I was wondering if the chicks looked like any particular breed. (I know that two are cochins).

Hey there!

You sent me a message about some tips on how to get started with BYC, so here are a few ideas...

1. Check out the Frequently Asked Questions section on BYC. This is a really helpful area filled with all kinds of how-to instructions that can teach you how to use a lot of the forum features (like adding an avatar or sending a private message). You can also learn about the history of our awesome community.

2. Read the How to Be a Good BYC Citizen thread. These are all suggestions by our amazing forum members on how to maximize your experience here (and stay out of trouble, too

).

3. Use the "Search" feature and also check out the Learning Center . Most of your most basic questions have probably been asked before by other people new to chickens, so if you read, read, read you'll probably learn a lot.

4. Get to know the BYC Staff (that's most of us). We're here to help you use the forum effectively, so let us know if you need something or have an idea.

5. Jump right in! We're a friendly, open, welcoming group, so join in the conversation wherever you like. You'll soon feel like BYC is your Internet "home away from home."
