Hi. About 3 weeks ago I got 4 Rhode Island reds and 4 Rhode Island whites 7 and 8 weeks old. I also got a 4 week old amercauna rooster. I have kept them separated due to size, but what to know when and how to introduce the rooster to the hens. Help!!!!

due to size and the fact that you have more hens then roster, I would introduce the hens to the roster in his area. thats how I have aclamated chickens befor and had no problems.

! Pleased to have you with us! Personally, I'd give the rooster close contact - like through a fence - with the hens. He will eventually be at the top of the pecking order but as he is younger than the hens they may be mean to him. Give them a couple days of seeing each other and then put him in the dark coop at night so they all wake up together. At first light open the coop and watch - make sure his isn't trapped in the coop them should they pick on him (but expect a few dust ups - he is the newcomer). If they are mean you might have to do the whole process over again. Good luck to you!
