Hello Viv and Vince here. We just acquired egg layers. I am told that they’re a mix breed of sex link and white leghorn. While we have helped my parents raise theirs throughout the years, this is our first time flying solo. We had our coop custom built and absolutely love it! As do the chickens! We only have a handful, and they should start laying eggs within a week or two.
In the previous years we raised broilers and were very successful. We decided to change it up this year.
We have two coonhound mixed puppies who we are hoping to acclimate with them, and train them to guard them. We don’t have many predators where we live, so we are lucky for that.
We love sitting out in the nice weather, having a few drinks and just watching the chickens. I personally love to make treats for them! My husband is big into gardening and often shares some of his crops with them.
I’m not quite sure how we found BYC, I want to say from my Step Mom a while back. We decided to join because now that we’re on our own, it would be nice to join a community where we can ask questions and share experiences. We’re looking forward to hearing about little tricks and tips that others have, as well as their experiences with their chickens!
