Hello! My son wanted to raise chickens after going upstate New York.
Though my uncle does raise chicken here in the city. My 10-year-old son and I are pretty new to this on our own. We plan on getting some chicks from Tractor supply this spring ( or sooner if they have chick days). We have none but after seeing my uncle's we are looking to get 3-6. I think a bantam (silkie) chicken may be good for my son, and that is the one he wants most.

I found this website just looking up information on raising chicks. I want my son to be successful in this new endeavor, so I am trying to better educate myself to help him. Currently, our hobbies are helping my uncle with chickens and boy scouts. My son is also looking to join the Fultonville 4-H .

Welcome to BYC! Glad you're here!

Raising poultry is a great thing to do with kids. My 8-year-old daughter has been helping with the chickens for pretty much her whole life. She considers them her chickens, which I think is a good thing. Last year, we started raising quail together, and that's been rewarding, too. I hope your chickens are as good to you and your son as ours have been to us.
