hi! I found him crossing the road one very hot summer day. Cars were almost running him over and you could tell his feet were hot. Anyways, i jumped out of my car and grabbed him. I tried to find his home and had no luck. So then I kept him inside for a while as I tried to find him a new home. I had no luck and now he is my rooster. I’m not allowed roosters in my area so I have to put him away every night in my guest house in a large cat carrier with a blankets over it. That way my neighbors won’t complain lol.

How old is your cross beak?

Scissors is 3.5 years old now. She is top dog on the pecking order, believe it or not. She is a gentle leader and only asserts her authority when absolutely necessary.
I got her as a tiny little chick. The feed store was going to cull her. I got a bullet blender and blended the chick food super fine and she did great! As an adult, she spends more time eating then others, but she is a great layer and the most affectionate chicken I have ever had. I did make a special feeder for her and I give her pellet and crumble as I’m not actually sure what is easier for her to eat, so she gets all the choices
If anyone has a split beak chick KEEP IT!

You are just so awesome. I have a hen that was going to be culled as well. I didn't get her earlier enough for her splay legs and curly toe paralysis to be fixed. She cannot eat or drink on her own. She is so wonderful.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love that chickens give back and lay eggs. I also love drinking a beer and watching them do life. Nothing more relaxing than that.
