Welcome to BYC!! Happy Halloween!I'm new to farm animals. We started with 16 birds (5 ISA Browns 5 Golden Comets that were all roosters, and a Barred Rock, Easter Egger, and Rhode Island Reds.) Eight ended up as roosters. So we ordered 15 more from a hatchery. Those are Barred Rocks and RIR's. We bought them as females but I'm beginning to think that's impossible.
We built our own chicken coop and run and now have six ducks and two turkeys.
I'm learning a lot about livestock, obviously. But our goal is to grow our own food and for it to be healthy. I'm feeding our animals organic feed and have recently started to ferment it.
We're also in the process of trying to prepare some garden space for next spring.
I've really enjoyed reading many of the posts and I'm very grateful to the people who share their wisdom. It's been invaluable to us as we learn to set things up.
