. I have just acquired five little chicklets, two Ameracaunas, two gold sex links, and one black Austrolorpe. They traveled all the way from Utah to Oregon with me the other day and seem pretty sturdy. It's been interesting watching them establish a pecking order, as the black Austrolorpe was in charge until the two Ameracaunas joined the flock. One of them, Bella, likes to peck at the others beaks, although I've seen the others chase her off when she gets too aggressive. They seem pretty content otherwise. I've noticed that a couple of them have loose stools. Is that something to worry about? Their feed is supposed to be medicated.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chicks they look lovely, I love little fuzzy butts.
Even at a young age chicks can be quite rough with each other and soon establish a pecking order in the first 2 weeks after hatch. As to the runny poop, your chicks look young like newly hatched? Once they have used up their yolk reserves after hatch and start on the crumb this can cause a little stomach upset untill they get used to the crumb. I would reccomend you check them for pasty butt to make sure they don't get poop built up on them.

Good luck with your chicks they are adorable. Enjoy them and BYC :frow

Thank you for the kind words and advice Yorkshire coop and Mountain peeps. It's been a long time since I've had little peeps. Meat birds mostly, and back then there wasn't the wealth of forums and such that I find now. These little gals surprised me in how well they handled the 620 mile journey we took by car. They are in a very large tote tub with paper and shavings to line the bottom. their water and crumbles are readily available along with a chick stick hanging from the side of the tote. They seem very content with the way the heat lamp is set up so I'm tickled. The last time I had layers the neighbors dog jumped their pen fence and all were lost. That was in Alaska, but here we just had a heavy duty tall fence installed to keep the deer out of the garden and the critters away from my chicks. Hope to get the coop put together soon.

Got a new bag of feed, different supplier because I've moved. The chicks don't seem to like it. Help?
