I'm glad the coop is liked. It's 8x8 and double walled, plenty of room for more chickens than we have.
We got the chicks at an Agway, it was a situation of what breeds were available that day and which breeds we've been wanting (BRs, RIRs, NHRs). There were a total of 7 BRs and just the two Orpingtons left, so we figured they would make a nice flock together. Very glad with the outcome. All turned out to be hens.
Their yard is about 30x30ft and fenced in with an electric wire around it. Many people let their chickens free range in the area, but I'm not that comfortable. We've seen foxes in our yard many times (curiously, only before the chickens arrived), raccoons and various wild canids and felines, and there was a fisher cat living nearby last winter. I'd ultimately like to give them a lot more space in the future, just safely.
