Title says it all. My wife came home with some chicks and a bunch of "chicken stuff" after an impulse purchase at tractor supply this weekend. So here I am.
The mad scramble to get them setup is done with building a large plywood box, heat lamp with all due safety precautions in place, etc. One thing to note is that we have a large abundance of racoons around this place, and when I say large, I mean roving gangs of 8 or more are frequently encountered. A friend of mine who is a seasoned and licensed trapper is going to assist in solving that problem if he can. I've noticed an uptick in activity recently, especially in my barn where I store seed stock so I'm going to have to put more emphasis on varmint control now that "we" have chickens.
So there it is. The beginning of my adventures with chickens.
