Hi everyone...
I have recently started my first coop of chickens and ducks. I have golden comets, partridge plymoths, australorps and bannys. And for my ducks I have rouens, sweddish, and khaki campbells. I grew up on a chicken farm and am somewhat farmiliar with chickens, but I still have a lot of questions and a lot to learn. I just set my first group of eggs into the incubator today. I wanted to know if I could add more eggs tomorrow without it hurting my hatch rate. Thanks to all the members and I look forward to the chicken talk .

Welcome to BYC!

You can stagger a hatch as long as you don't leave too many days in between additions. And each time you add eggs, especially in the beginning, you are opening the door for blood rings. These things form when the temp was warm and there was a drop in temp in the first 2 days or so of incubation. I don't like to do staggered hatches, but lots of people do it with no problems. You can stop turning eggs up to 5 days before hatch, (the normal lock down day is 3 days before) so any eggs that are ahead or behind can all be stopped on the same day as long as they were set within a day or so of each other.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X3 staggered hatches can work fine if you don't have too many days between sets, or if you have a separate hatcher to separate them later on. Two sets only one day apart should not make much of a difference, just lock down from the first set like TwoCrows said, there is usually a two or three day spread on when chicks from the same set hatch anyhow.
