New to the group.

Congratulations on the new chicks and returning to BYC!

I have no experience with Russians, although they look lovely in photos. I have a Speckled Sussex, Bronwyn, who is especially curious about anything I'm trying to do and will make my work more difficult by "helping" me. I'm sure she means well.

Good luck with your garden. Weather warm enough to plant is still several weeks away up here. What do you have the most success in growing? I love a fresh tomato and try to plant as many as I have room for every year.

Welcome back; hope you get useful answers to all your questions!
I had my most successful tomato “crop” in the fall and have lots of seedlings ready to be planted this weekend. I had really good luck with Brussel sprouts, rutabaga and greens. It’s been a great gardening year for me overall, I am a tad obsessed!

I have way more interest in gardening than I have success. Despite incredible soil, lots of free fertilizer (thanks to my goats) and both top-notch seeds and plants, my gardens are frequently doomed by my lack of proper attention and some really determined rabbits (last year, I found a bunny INSIDE the "protective" rabbit fencing in the main garden) and swooping birds.

Congrats on that bumper tomato crop! I always have good luck growing cherry tomatoes. My favorite full-sized heirloom is the Cherokee Purple.

I've never tried growing Brussel sprouts -- although I really like eating them -- nor rutabagas. I've some success with various greens and will be planting more this year. Best wishes for your seedlings!

Belated :welcome :frow We have a farm swap twice a month and if you are ever in our area, stop by and say hi. I'm the old lady in the TSC hat. Good luck and have fun...
