New to the Hen House!

It is very difficult to sex silkies before 4-5 mos. of age and sometimes not till they crow or lay eggs.As a whole they make excellent broody hens but, are not great layers.

Hello :frow
I like the choices you’ve narrowed down to, I have Polish and silkies and they are sweethearts! My Polish hen, Bob (I’m new to chickens too, could have sworn she was a boy lol) is the first to my feet and weaves through them as I walk when I’m out with them! And don’t get me started on my sweet little silkies... anywho, this is the place to be when starting your new flock!

Welcome welcome! I am pretty new myself but an addicted to my chicks and ducks and...well BYC too sounds like you have a mini farm in the making. Can't wait to hear about it as you go! In my minimally educated opinion, if you choose Americauna, unless you are getting them from a reputable breeder (retail store...private party) I would suggest one of your other choices. Easter Eggers can be passed off as Americaunas and are technically a "mutt". Pretty! Fun eggs! But not pure. Others have far more and better info than I do but as of tonight, I have read now 3 articles about this happening. Just make sure you are getting true Americaunas if those are what you actually want lol. Humans can be turds! (Post your doggie in the forum for random stuff or rambling when you get it. I am a dog lover too!)
