Hey all, we found a wild Turkey hen late July, saw the momma hen few days prior. Well she had three poults and left one. Found the lil critter and tried to find the Mom and she was no where to be seen. From there we contacted several rehabs and none were willing to take it in...stated it was probably sick and going to pass.
As cute as she was we couldn’t just let nature take it’s course so we took it in. Got a heat lamp and struggled to get it to drink. Beak dipping didn’t work so they next step was to get a couple chicks to teach her how.
After that the poult and chicks were the best of friends. Contacted our local wildlife to see if we could release her when she was bigger and she decided to stay with us. Let them roam free and have a fenced in area with a nice coop. Now we have 7 chickens and a Turkey hen. Feed her separate high protein feed and so far so good. Joined here as we are having issues where she gets nervous and injured herself on the fence on occasion.
