Hi Everyone,
My family is in the process of homesteading 160 acres in the Rocky Mountains in central British Columbia, Canada. The land we bought was homesteaded once back in the 1800's but has had no use since about 1970 or so.
Origionally purchased with a 5 - 10 year plan of working on it gradually and "retiring" out there some day - plans have changed and it has become a 6 month plan to move out there and "live off the land" and become self sufficient.
One of the first things on our list is to get some farm animals that will provide us with necessary daily living items, chickens fall into this...providing eggs and meat. We are looking at free-range options with having a secured coop at night. However, I have no idea where to start - so hoping to find some useful information on here as to how to get started. :)
