Okay so I have raised jumbo browns before, I dabbled in the golden pharaoh. I sold them almost exclusively to a falconer which was very neat I thought. She trained her birds with my birds. Anyway she move so I sold out. When I went to the auction tonight there was some bobwhite and what I thought at first was Tibetan, however upon further inspection they where Tennessee reds... I really wanted them so I bid... I only paid 2.50 a piece for them! I bought all of them. 17 total with the perfect male to female ratio. All are in very good health. Very excited to start "playing" with this breed...

If there is any advice any of you all that have raised them for longer than I want to shoot my way I am all ears! I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow.

All Bobwhites need about 4 square feet per bird. They mate for life and need to be paired off male to female. Keep the breeding pairs separate as they will kill others during breeding season. (spring thru fall). After which, they can be kept together in a colony during the winter months. Keep the two species separate.

Some Tennessee Reds can be quite aggressive, a bit more than the standard Bobwhite. Although both of these species is pretty wired up. They do not like to be handled and too much of it will stress them out. However they can be tamed down a bit with treats.

Feed them a high protein diet, somewhere between 24% and 28%. Higher the better.

You can keep them in cages/pens or aviary style. Offer them a natural environment with cut branches and hay for nest building. This atmosphere will keep them calmer.

Good luck!
