I'm new here as well, but wanted to say it warms my heart you took the chickens with the house. So many people would have complained about this or said "no", but really made my day when I read this.

So THIS is what one of my girls is doing. She's been "taking over" protection of the coop, even pecking at me a bit when I go in there. I tried putting her to the ground and tugging on her head feathers lightly to establish pecking order, and she is okay for a little while after that, but back to this dinosaur noise and puffing up a few hours later. She just turned 6 months and hasn't started laying yet, but one of the others just dropped her first butt nugget today! So I will have to see if she gets protective of her eggs.

How do you break them of this? She was so sweet up until a week ago.

Great advice! We have plenty of that and will certainly "spruce up the place" with some perching spots and fresh wood chips! Thanks!

Pine wood. Cedar is not good for the chickens. Mine love stumps and branches!
