new to this? few questions?

I have just purchased a hen and 10 chicks and they are currently living in an A frame run.

The mom is very protective as i thought she would be, and the chicks are fast and so scared of humans.

What age can we start trying to tame them? will they (as they get older) not become as scared and easier to tame?

What age should we take the mom off her chicks and put her in with our other chickens?

Hello and Welcome. I have never had a hen but have raised babies for two years now. I start handling them as soon as I get them and often. I can go and pick up my older girls and just walk through the pen and pet the babies (they are now 12 weeks old). I imagine that you have to earn the trust of the new hen first so she knows you will not harm the kids. Maybe give her treats? Good luck and enjoy!!

Its hard because the run they are in at the moment, they just run away from me and i cant catch them. They seem very scared! what age can i take the mom off them?

you could take them away from the mom whenever you like you may have to provide suplemental heating for them and in a few days they should warm up to you
